About National Tree Day
National Tree Day was co-founded in 1996 by Planet Ark and Olivia Newton-John and has grown into Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature protection event.

This national day provides all Australians with an opportunity to do something positive for the environment and reconnect with nature.

Planting trees, plants and shrubs is a simple but effective way to:

  • help enrich the soil;
  • improve water quality;
  • protect our native wildlife;
  • reduce the amount of storm water run off;
  • reduce your cooling costs in summer;
  • clean the air;
  • prevent soil erosion; and
  • they give off the oxygen that we need to breathe!
  • So far, over 26 million trees have been planted.
