Going Green at Central Park: Our Workplace Sustainability Initiatives

Green industry accreditations

We’re proud that Central Park is one of the most energy-efficient buildings in Perth. We hold a range of industry accredited ratings and accolades for our sustainability practices, such as the 5-star NABERS rating and 4-Green star rating. The Green Star is the only national and voluntary sustainability rating system for buildings and communities and is operated by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA). The organisation aims to transform environmental efficiencies in Australian buildings while boosting productivity and improving the health and wellbeing of local communities.

Easy ways to recycle

A simple but effective way to reduce our impact on the environment is through recycling. At Central Park, we want to make it as easy as possible with separate facilities provided to collect paper products, cardboard, glass, plastic and metal containers.

Our Green Room is the one-stop shop for our tenants to dispose of their non-organic products properly. Located on B3, the room provides a communal recycling point for the following:

  • Disposable face masks

  • E-waste

  • Polystyrene
  • Batteries

  • Aerosol

  • Fluorescent light tubes and globes

  • Printer cartridges

  • Soft plastics

As part of Central Park’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, we have introduced 2 new recycling streams for disposable face masks in our Green Room located in Basement 3 and organic waste for each tenancy and within the precinct.

The mask waste stream accepts non-woven disposable plastic-based face masks, including 3-ply surgical, dust masks, KN95, and N95 masks. Please do not include reusable cloth masks or packaging.

Have you spotted our new bins out in the park? These ultra hygienic, BigBelly bins are equipped with a built-in compactor, which means they can accommodate up to 660L of rubbish. They're also ultra smart, with sensors to alert when they're getting full, so you'll never see an overflowing bin in the park again. The best part? You don't have to touch anything, simply use the foot pedal to dispose of your rubbish.

With most of us starting each morning with a coffee, 60,000 takeaway cups end up in landfills. Those that are recycled often contaminate other materials in the bin, sending it all to landfill. Central Park has 2 recycling separation coffee cup bins to encourage coffee drinkers to appropriately dispose of their cups to assist with this issue. You can't miss them. They are large and located in the cafe and retail arcade (near the lifts). Learn about our coffee cup recycling station and discover how to recycle your cup correctly.

Central Park is thrilled to launch an organic waste as an additional stream in May 2022. We have provided all our tenants with a complimentary organic bin for each floor. We are committed to creating a sustainable building. Learn more about the launch here

Supporting sustainable events

We take advantage of opportunities to promote sustainability and contribute to protecting our environment through different events. Central Park has actively supported Earth Hour since 2007. We turn off the non-essential lights in the Central Park building and on top of the building at 8.30 pm every year and ask our tenants to do the same in their offices. We have also celebrated National Recycling Week, Plastic Free July and National Tree Day in the past year.

End of trip facilities

Choosing to ride to work instead of driving your car is a simple way to reduce your impact on the environment. We want to encourage Central Park tenants to choose sustainable modes of transportation through our End of Trip facilities. It’s easy to cycle or walk to work and then transition into your workday. Store your bike and belongings using bike racks and lockers, then use our change room, drying room and towel service to refresh yourself for the day ahead.
